If you have questions, please contact your area chief.

All we need is you!

Paint day is Saturday, October 4, 2008. As a paint team captain, you are responsible for orchestrating the activities of your team to ensure a successful and productive day. Please review the following:

  • You should already have signed up your 12-15-volunteer paint team, more than twenty volunteers on a team is not recommended. If you have not yet found a sufficient number of team members, be sure to get firm commitments right away. Be certain that your team members commit that they will attend on Paint Day. Don't risk coming up short-handed at the last moment. If a team member is unsure about being there, find someone else! Your whole team will thank you for it. Be sure each team member is given the address and direction to your paint home.
  • DIRECTIONS:  Please find map in your Homeowner information packet.
  • Supplies will be passed out on Saturday morning October 4th at the staging site. All paint brushes and other necessary supplies are included. It is recommended that you contact your homeowner before the Brush Up date to introduce yourself, confirm arrival time on Brush Up morning and verify that paint was delivered. Contact your Area Chief immediately should you have any questions or concerns.
  • Ladders are your responsibility: Have your team members commit to bringing three to five ladders per team, this is the recommended number.

You or a team member should be assigned the task of picking up paint supplies, T-shirts, yard signs, and refreshments at the staging site. Refreshments will consist of soft drinks, water, and snacks, courtesy of friends, respectively. You may want to bring ice, ice chest and extra snacks for your team members.

  • Plan to arrive at your paint home no later than 8:00 AM. Having made a homeowner courtesy call earlier you will be expected. When you arrive, immediately locate the paint.
  • Have your team members arrive by 8:00 AM. They should be prepared to get right to work.
  • Each team member MUST sign a liability waiver before beginning work. Your Area Chief will pick up signed waivers during the day.
  • If you find any problems while on the paint site contact your Area Chief. He/She will do what is necessary to help solve any problem. Your Area Chief's phone number is included in your Homeowner information packet.
  • Volunteer Appreciation Picnic tickets will be exchanged for waiver forms during the day; all team members will receive a ticket. Don't forget tickets are necessary to receive your complimentary lunch!
  • Paint Spray Equipment: big issue, to be discussed.
  • Place yard signs in the front of your paint home so that the sign can be seen from the street. Paint Day sponsors have earned the right to be listed on your yard sign. A special space on the yard sign was created for you to write in you team name.
  • Assignment of specific duties to your team members is your responsibility as a Team Captain. Use your judgment, and keep less-than skilled team members and children off the ladders.
  • If your homeowner has a tree to be planted, Team Captains should have a team member bring a shovel, in case the assigned group is not able to get to your house by the time painting is completed. Note: Tree should be planted parallel to the orange mark on curb and two feet in from curb.
  • Have your team clean up the homeowner's property. Offer any remaining paint and used supplies to the homeowner. If the homeowner refuses it, you are welcomed to any remaining used paint and supplies. If not interested tightly seal any remaining used paint along with trash (trash bags provided) and place it on the curb. Used brushes (not considered trash) should be cleaned and placed in a bag and labeled "clean brushes", they will be recycled. Inform your Area Chief of bagged cleaned used brushes and paint/supply surplus, he/she will make arrangements to pick them up. Teams may keep the yard signs as a Cowtown Brush Up 2008 keepsake, but if it is not wanted, please place it on the curb. Please leave the homeowner's house with your groups (imaginary) signature!
  • If your team should finish early, feel free to drop by another paint location in your area. Chances are some of the teams in your neighborhood can use the help!

Please accept the thanks of the Housing Department, the City of Fort Worth, Mayor Mike Moncrief, and all the homeowners for your hard work, commitment and dedication to this project.

As a demonstration of our appreciation, you and your team members will receive complimentary picnic ticket.
